Job Description

Dayton, Ohio, The Head Track and Field Coach provides leadership, organization and is responsible for all aspects of a competitive Division I track & field program. This position is responsible for all aspects of the track and field program and oversees the Head Coach for Cross County. The Head Track and Field Coach serves as the leader and head coach and with the aid of the assistant coaches, and Head Cross Country Coach, primarily instructs, trains and coaches student athletes about the sports and skills required and to be maintained for Division I competition. The Head Track and Field Coach will also instruct student-athletes for purposes of academic, social development, compliance requirements, and safety and health considerations. The Head Track and Field Coach will recruit quality student athletes and engage in strategic leadership, addressing matters such as team composition, competition strategies, and peak performance. This position performs additional duties related to coaching, as needed (e.g., compliance education, budget management, equipment procurement, fundraising and other duties). This position shall comply with the published constitution, bylaws, interpretations, rules or regulations of the NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference or the University. This is a full time, 12 month position with full benefits. This position will require some travel and many evening, weekend and some holiday hours. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree - Experience as a successful track and field or cross country coach - Successful recruiting, developing and retaining quality student-athletes from a variety of backgrounds - Expertise in one or more event areas -Excellent and effective written communication skills - A valid driver's license with a low risk driving record and the ability to successfully be insured by the university - A strong commitment to adhering to institutional, conference and NCAA policies, rules, and regulations - Experience to safety and student-athlete welfare Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree - Demonstrated ability to coach sprints, jumps, hurdles, and multis - Experience as a track/running coach at the collegiate level - Advanced training in one or more event areas - Supervisor experience - Demonstrated experience of building successful teams - Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills - Demonstrated experience of recruiting exceptionally competitive individual student-athletes - 1 or more years coaching experience at a D1 level
