Howard Payne University Athletics is seeking a creative, energetic, and motivated graduate assistant to help lead the next chapter of Yellow Jacket Athletics through live sports broadcasting, multimedia production, and athletic communications. This is more than a graduate assistantship—it's an opportunity to produce live collegiate sporting events, build an impressive professional portfolio, and gain hands-on experience in nearly every aspect of an NCAA athletic department while making an immediate impact.
The Howard Payne Athletic office is accepting applications for a graduate assistant for 2026-27 that can be extended to a second year (one to two-year appointment). The graduate assistant will assist with sports information and/or broadcasting efforts for the University’s 14 intercollegiate varsity sports. Located in Brownwood, Texas, Howard Payne is a member of NCAA Division III and the American Southwest Conference.
Responsibilities:
- Manage statistics, records, and historical archives for assigned sports.
- Coordinate live statistics and scoring for home athletic events.
- Serve as primary media contact for assigned sports.
- Organize and record game statistics at athletic events and provide timely reporting of results to media outlets & ASC.
- Assist with team coverage through written content including game previews and recaps, as well as features highlighting team as a whole as well as individual student-athletes.
- Produce and direct live broadcasts for FloCollege, including setup, graphics, replay, audio, and stream quality.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student broadcast crews, camera operators, and on-air talent.
- Work closely with play-by-play and color commentators to ensure a professional broadcast presentation.
- Coordinate interviews with coaches and student-athletes for pregame, halftime, and postgame features.
- Create broadcast opens, feature packages, hype videos, and promotional content for use during live events.
- Capture and edit highlights for immediate use on social media and postgame recap videos.
- Produce long-form video features highlighting student-athletes, coaches, and departmental initiatives.
- Assist in the management of student and game staff workers.
- Adhere to all NCAA and American Southwest Conference rules and regulations. Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, physical education, kinesiology, sport management or related fields.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Compensation:
On-campus housing is provided along with a 50% tuition waiver per semester, and monthly stipend each semester.
