Bay City, Michigan, Position Summary
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), an NCAA Division II conference seeks an innovative, collaborative, and highly organized professional to serve as Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications & Championships.
This position serves a critical leadership role within the conference office by directing the conference's digital communications strategy, enhancing the GLIAC brand, overseeing video production and streaming initiatives, supporting championship administration, and serving as the primary liaison for assigned sports and governance committees. The successful candidate will be a creative storyteller, strategic communicator, and relationship builder who is passionate about promoting the achievements of GLIAC student-athletes, coaches, and member institutions.
The Assistant Athletic Director reports directly to the Commissioner and works collaboratively with conference staff, institutional athletic departments, media partners, and NCAA administrators.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications & Social Media
Develop and implement the conference's comprehensive communications and digital media strategy.
Oversee all GLIAC social media platforms, including content planning, creation, scheduling, engagement, and analytics.
Produce compelling written, graphic, and video content that promotes conference championships, student-athletes, institutional achievements, and conference initiatives.
Coordinate conference news releases, feature stories, weekly awards, preseason polls, championship recaps, and special publications.
Maintain editorial standards and ensure consistent messaging across all conference communication channels.
Video Production & Streaming:
Serve as the conference liaison to the conference's digital streaming partner.
Coordinate regular communication with member institutions regarding broadcast standards, scheduling, technical requirements, and production quality.
Develop and implement best practices for championship broadcasts and regular-season streamed events.
Produce promotional videos, highlight packages, championship features, and branded digital content.
Assist member institutions in improving streaming quality and viewer experience.
Conference Branding & Marketing
Protect and enhance the GLIAC brand identity across all digital, print, video, and championship materials.
Develop marketing campaigns that increase conference visibility, fan engagement, and championship attendance.
Ensure consistent use of conference logos, graphics, messaging, and visual identity standards.
Collaborate with conference partners and sponsors on promotional opportunities and branded content.
Sport Administration:
Serve as the conference administrator for assigned sports, including:
Act as the primary liaison to coaches and sport committees.
Coordinate schedules, championship procedures, awards, and sport policies.
Assist with NCAA championship administration and selection information.
Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and policy recommendations.
Support sport-specific strategic initiatives and legislative updates.
Championship Administration:
Assist in planning and administering conference championships.
Coordinate championship operations including host institution communication, game management, credentials, awards, signage, staffing, and media operations.
Assist with championship manuals, budgets, contracts, and event logistics.
Ensure championships reflect a first-class student-athlete and spectator experience.
Governance & Committee Administration:
Serve as staff liaison for assigned conference committees.
Coordinate committee meetings, agendas, minutes, and follow-up communications.
Monitor NCAA legislative developments and communicate relevant information to member institutions.
Media Relations:
Serve as a primary media contact for assigned sports.
Coordinate interview requests and media coverage for conference events.
Maintain conference statistical records and historical archives.
Analytics & Emerging Technologies:
Monitor social media performance and digital engagement metrics.
Prepare reports evaluating audience growth, campaign effectiveness, and streaming performance.
Explore innovative technologies and emerging digital platforms to enhance conference communications and fan engagement.
Utilize AI-assisted tools and emerging media technologies where appropriate to improve efficiency and creativity.
Other Responsibilities:
Assist with conference strategic initiatives and special projects.
Support conference sponsorship activation and partner fulfillment.
Represent the conference at NCAA meetings, championships, and professional development events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The GLIAC offers a competitive benefits package. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within the NCAA or an NCAA member institution. Knowledge of NCAA Division II governance, legislation, and championship administration Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Sidearm Sports, StatCrew, NCAA LiveStats, and streaming production software. Photography and videography experience. Familiarity with website content management systems and digital analytics tools.
