Farmville, Virginia, Job Description Longwood University invites qualified applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Women's Softball (GA017). Under the supervision and mentorship of the Head Coach, the successful candidate will assist in the instruction, scouting, recruiting, and coaching of student-athletes in the fundamentals of softball by demonstrating techniques and methods necessary for success during collegiate competition; inform student-athletes of applicable University, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; and evaluate student-athletes' strengths and weaknesses to improve techniques in order to achieve success on and off the field. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Demonstrate coaching knowledge and technique, including in-depth knowledge of sport rules, game strategies, and performance principles Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions Scout, identify, and recommend prospective student-athletes who align with the mission and vision of the program while encouraging diversity and maintaining a competitive team Inform student-athletes of University, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure full compliance Personally adhere to University, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure full compliance Perform public relations functions that promote Longwood student-athletes in a positive manner to the media, alumni, and community Work collaboratively with University Advancement to cultivate donor relationships and support successful fundraising efforts Provide training, direction, encouragement, and motivation to student-athletes in team building, academics, strategy, planning, and sportsmanship Demonstrate a solution-oriented approach in all aspects of the position Use logic and reasoning to identify problems, develop solutions, and support the development of student-athletes through coaching and mentoring Perform administrative duties assigned by the Head Coach in a timely and professional manner Demonstrate excellent listening and communication skills Work collaboratively with the Head Coach in offensive strategy, mechanics, and execution of the offensive vision for the program Additional Information This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position.
