Job Description

La Junta, Colorado, Job Summary: The Athletic Trainer will assist in educating coaches and athletes regarding injury risks, precautions, and treatments; they must also help in the prevention of injuries and assist in the rehabilitation of those athletes who have sustained injury. This person will be responsible for assisting the Athletic Director with the game day operation and duties associated with all home sporting events. This includes recruitment, hiring, training and scheduling of event staff for all home contests and special events within the athletic department. This also includes coordinating concession and staff for the concession areas. Duties & Responsibilities: 1.Responsible for the day-to-day physical health of the athlete. 2.Ensure coverage of all practices and home contests. 3.Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment. 4.Management and rehabilitation of injuries resulting from physical activity and prevention of injuries with the prescription of sport-specific exercise and the application of prophylactic equipment (e.g., tape and braces). 5.Evaluates acute injuries, provides the injured athlete with therapeutic exercise to hasten the rehabilitation process, and treats injuries with therapeutic modalities. 6.Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians. 7.Promote communication among the coach and the athlete as to risks, physical limitations and injury prevention measures. 8.Maintain confidential records of all athletes’ physicals and health forms. 9.Assist Athletic Director with budget and management of all sports medicine expenditures. 10.Act as “Athletics Health Care Administrator” in compliance with the NJCAA and USCAH for all health care related communications and directives. 11.Maintain daily office hours as set forth by Athletic Director. 12.Maintain equipment and supply inventory for training room. 13.Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Game Day Operations 1.Hire and train personnel, including student work studies, for game day activities including concessions, admissions, score keeping, scoreboard, public address announcer, live stream and other individuals necessary to host a successful event. 2.Schedule workers and oversee staff during events. 3.Provide training for excellent customer service. 4.Manage and maintain an inventory of all products and supplies needed for events. 5.Ensure management of concessions is recorded before and after each event. 6.Be the liaison for Score Vision (electronic score board) and monitor for correct information. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training program. • Certified through the Board of Certification and hold the certification of a Certified Athletic Trainer (NATABOC). • Equivalent to one-year previous work experience as a certified athletic trainer in high school or intercollegiate athletics. Preferred Qualifications: • Three years’ experience as a certified athletic trainer in intercollegiate athletics. • Athletic training experience with both men’s and women’s team. • Strong interpersonal skills • Strong computer skills • Educational philosophy in alignment with that of a small rural, comprehensive Community College and enthusiasm for this type of environment and the aspirations of its people.
