Job Description

Allentown , Pennsylvania, Cedar Crest College is seeking a Head Field Hockey Coach. The coach will develop, recruit and administer a competitive women’s field hockey program consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics. The Field Hockey Coach is expected to develop, coordinate and manage an active recruitment and retention program for field hockey student athletes. The coach will assist with game day management coverage, student athlete advisory committee, and assist in any other project for department as needed. Key Responsibilities Instruct, teach, and train student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of field hockey team and incorporate a good field hockey culture. Develop, communicate, and execute game and practice plans for the team and for individual athletes; monitor playing and practice activities and scheduling of contests. Guide and instruct athletes of health, nutrition, wellness, team concepts and safety. Respond to and address academic concerns with student athletes; monitor academic policies and requirements, academic progress, full time enrollment and graduation rates. Coordinate tutors for team roster; interface, integrate and coordinate with other academic support and compliance units for student athlete academic success as needed. Recruit prospective student athletes and reach goals agreed upon with the enrollment team at Cedar Crest. Enhance student athlete retention by establishing mentoring relationships and providing a positive, productive athletic and academic experience. Hire, train, and supervise assistant field hockey coaches. Assist with game day operations as needed. Assist with the student athlete advisory committee. Assist with the coordination of both indoor and outdoor groups as needed. Other duties as assigned by administration and leadership. Bachelor’s degree in applicable field required. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience coaching at the collegiate level required. Solid knowledge of NCAA Division III compliance rules and regulations. Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills.   Strong customer focus with exceptional interpersonal skills.  Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.  Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid required.  Valid driver’s license and completion of college driver safety program.  Physical Requirements and Working Conditions  Visual and hearing ability to perform all required duties related to the position with or without reasonable accommodation Able to independently travel and transport team and equipment to other locations for contests and other activities. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate technology and office equipment with or without reasonable accommodation. Able to stand/sit continually to perform essential job functions for the entire workday, including ability to effectively instruct and train student athletes Able to work varied hours and a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as necessary and required.
