Assistant Softball Coach: No mandatory second sport

Reports To: Head Softball Coach, Campus Athletic Coordinator, and Katy ISD Athletic Administration

Primary Purpose: Assist the Head Softball Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive softball program that promotes academic achievement, character development, leadership, sportsmanship, and athletic excellence. Foster a positive environment that supports the mission of Katy ISD and the overall development of student-athletes.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate or appropriate district-approved credentials.
  • Meet all UIL and Katy ISD coaching certification requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategy, conditioning, and skill development.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and community members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Development:
    • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the softball program.
    • Teach and develop individual and team softball skills.
    • Assist with practice planning, game preparation, scouting, and player evaluations.
    • Support offseason strength and conditioning programs.
    • Help maintain consistency throughout the feeder pattern and sub-varsity levels.
  • Student-Athlete Development:
    • Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility.
    • Serve as a positive role model and mentor.
    • Foster discipline, accountability, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
    • Encourage personal growth and character development both on and off the field.
  • Practice and Game Responsibilities:
    • Assist with daily practice organization and instruction.
    • Provide position-specific coaching and skill development.
    • Supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
    • Assist with equipment management, field preparation, and game-day operations.
  • Communication and Professionalism:
    • Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, coaching staff, faculty, and administration.
    • Follow the established chain of command in addressing concerns.
    • Represent the school and district with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
    • Attend required district, campus, and athletic department meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Assist with inventory, equipment distribution, and facility upkeep.
    • Help coordinate team travel, scheduling, and program logistics as assigned.
    • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, eligibility, and program activities.
    • Support fundraising, community engagement, and booster club initiatives in accordance with district guidelines.

Working Conditions:

  • Extended work hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks.
  • Frequent travel for competitions and team events.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment.

Other duties may be assigned by the Head Coach, Campus Athletic Coordinator, or Athletic Administration.
