Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach

Position Title

Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach

Reports To

Athletic Director and Campus Principal

Primary Purpose

Provide leadership, organization, and instruction for the boys and girls golf programs. Develop student-athletes academically, athletically, and socially while promoting sportsmanship, character, teamwork, and competitive excellence. Coordinate all aspects of the golf program in alignment with district goals and regulations established by the University Interscholastic League (UIL).

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferred or as required by district assignment)
  • CDL certification or ability to obtain, if required by the district
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred

Experience

  • Previous coaching experience in golf preferred
  • Experience working with secondary students
  • Knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, strategy, and player development

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of golf instruction and competitive preparation
  • Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes of varying skill levels
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of UIL regulations and district policies
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Program Leadership

  • Direct and supervise all aspects of the boys and girls golf programs.
  • Develop a comprehensive year-round plan for player development.
  • Establish program goals and evaluate progress toward achieving them.
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, and academic success.

Coaching and Instruction

  • Plan and conduct practices that develop golf fundamentals, course management, rules knowledge, and competitive skills.
  • Evaluate individual and team performance and implement improvement strategies.
  • Prepare athletes for district, regional, and state competition.
  • Encourage off-season participation and skill development.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Promote character, leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Ensure student safety during practices, travel, and competitions.

Administration

  • Schedule practices, tournaments, and transportation in coordination with the athletic department.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and uniforms.
  • Assist with budget planning and responsible use of program funds.
  • Complete required reports, eligibility documentation, and other administrative duties.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and UIL regulations.

Communication and Community Relations

  • Communicate effectively with parents, athletes, staff, and administrators.
  • Foster positive relationships with local golf courses, community organizations, and supporters.
  • Represent the district and athletic program professionally at all times.
  • Promote participation and enthusiasm for the golf program throughout the community.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise assistant coaches assigned to the golf program.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and related activities.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Extended hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on golf courses.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment up to 50 pounds.

Contract Length: As assigned by district policy
Salary: According to district compensation schedule and coaching stipend assignment
