With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena, Augustana Athletics launched the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and is also the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Director’s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.  Head Coach – Women’s Softball  Augustana University (SD) invites applications for the position of Head Coach – Women’s Softball. This position is responsible for leading, organizing, and administering all aspects of an NCAA Division II collegiate Women’s Softball program. This includes coaching, recruiting, athlete development, program management, and ensuring compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to: Coaching and Competitive Success  Plan and conduct practices, training sessions, and competitions.  Design and implement competitive game strategies to maximize team performance and player development plans. Lead technical instruction in women’s softball. Analyze performance and adjust strategies for competitive improvement Monitor student -athlete academic progress and personal development. Promote physical conditioning, injury prevention, and overall mental wellness. Recruiting and Enrollment Management Identify, evaluate, and recruit qualified student-athletes who align with institutional and DII values  Manage all phases of the recruiting process in compliance with NCAA Division II regulations.  Build recruitment pipelines with high school, club teams, and transfers. Contribute to enrollment goals and retention strategies. Support academic achievement and monitor progress toward degree completion.  Mentor student-athletes in leadership, personal growth, and career readiness.  Promote balance between athletics, academics, and campus life.  Collaborate with academic support services to ensure eligibility. Program Administration, Fundraising, and Community Engagement  Oversee day-to-day program administration.  Schedule competitions and coordinate with conference/league officials.  Oversee assistant coaches and support staff. Manage team equipment, scholarships, and overall program budget.  Ensure strict adherence to NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional rules.  Maintain accurate documentation for recruiting, eligibility, and financial aid.  Complete required compliance education and reporting.  Manage and execute fundraising activities to assist with the overall program budget (i.e., camps/clinics, donor events/engagement, fundraising activities). Represent the program at campus, community, conference and national events. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:  Prior collegiate coaching experience in Women’s Softball Coach  A Bachelor’s Degree required. Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s Degree preferred. Previous collegiate head coaching experience and recruitment in a collegiate level program preferred or equivalent competitive coaching experience Minimum three years coaching experience in the sport of women’s softball Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain). Ability to successfully complete the NCAA Annual Coaches Certification Requirement. Experience in recruiting academically sound, qualified student athletes. Experience with budget management and fundraising initiatives. Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
