Job Description

Tyler, Texas, Job Summary The Head Softball Coach will recruit, coach, and mentor responsible and academically driven student-athletes for the softball program. The head coach coordinates program activities, internal and external appearances, and competitions. The head coach is also responsible for promoting UT Tyler athletics, coordinating special events, and engaging the campus and community. This position is subject to an NCAA enforcement staff compliance review, and employment is contingent upon satisfactory results. Standard office environment with required travel, evening hours, and some weekend hours. Will work in all types of weather conditions, from the cold to extreme heat, as well as in a fluid environment. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Consistently recruit educationally sound student-athletes with high moral and ethical character. Develop the schedule of competition against other universities within budget constraints. Integrating the recruiting and retention program into the campus community. Aid in scheduling, planning, and supervising practices and contests. Travel with teams as needed. Oversee operating budget. Engage and direct fundraising efforts. Help administer all aspects of the program ensuring compliance with departmental, institutional, Lone Star Conference, and NCAA DII rules and regulations. Participate in alumni and booster engagement including promotion of the program on social media platforms and at university and community events. Aid in managing and operating within the budget parameters, without exception. The position will work with the marketing department and office, creating and producing collateral materials and advertising initiatives designed to produce a heightened awareness of athletic events and programs. Ensure satisfactory academic performance, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes, including providing education and methods for discussing and resolving any issues. Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletic staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect for the competencies of others and appropriate conflict resolution behavior. Responsible for successful coaching of the UT Tyler team, to include maximizing the team’s potential and abilities, keeping athletes eligible, and retaining athletes through graduation. Aid in the responsibility for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are complied with. Represent Athletics at student events such as orientation, Patriot Days, and other duties as requested by the Director of Athletics. Other duties as assigned. Basic knowledge of computers including databases. Excellent interpersonal communication to interact effectively and professionally with the University community, outside community, and the press. Ethical. Ability to maintain confidential information. Required Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree.  Seven (7) or more years of experience of successful collegiate coaching. May accept a combination of education and experience. Preferred Education / Experience Master’s degree.  Five (5) years’ experience head coaching an NCAA DII or NCAA DI team. Required Certifications / Licenses Must maintain certification in first aid/CPR/AED throughout the entire appointment.  Texas Driver's License within thirty (30) days of employment.
