Job Posting: Middle School SPED Inclusion Teacher / Boys Athletics Coach

  • Location: Harpool Middle School - Denton ISD - Guyer HS Feeder

  • Reports To: Campus Principal

Primary Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic educator and leader to fill a dual role as a 6th–8th Grade SPED Inclusion Teacher (primarily focusing on Math inclusion) and Boys Athletics Coach. This role is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic, emotional, and physical potential both in the classroom and on the field.

Coaching Assignment & Details

  • Sports: 7th/8th Boys Football, 7th Grade Basketball, and Track & Field.

  • Required Certifications: Atavus & CPR/First Aid (Training and certifications will be provided by the district upon hire).

  • Leadership: Work directly under the campus Boys Athletic Coordinator to develop student-athletes.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred).

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsements.

Experience & Skills

  • One (1) year of teaching or clinical teaching experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of the ARD committee process and IEP goal implementation.

  • Ability to adapt curriculum, accommodate diverse learning styles, and manage classroom/athletic behavior effectively.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Major Responsibilities & Duties

Academic (SPED Inclusion)

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-teach and implement IEP accommodations in 6th–8th grade settings.

  • Develop lesson plans reflecting modifications for individual student differences; monitor and assess student achievement.

  • Maintain accurate records, compile necessary reports (including SHARS/X-Logs), and complete tasks required by the SPED department.

Athletic (Coaching)

  • Instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training of football, basketball, and track.

  • Maintain a positive role model environment emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and academic accountability.

  • Manage athletic equipment, facilities, and team travel as assigned.

  • Friday Night Football Game responsibilities for Guyer HS, (filming, charting plays, etc)

Professional Expectations

  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents, students, and colleagues.

  • Comply with all Texas Education Agency (TEA), Board, and Denton ISD policies.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Physical: Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and occasional heavy lifting to support student needs or athletic setup.

  • Environment: Frequent transition between indoor classroom environments and outdoor athletic facilities; exposure to varying weather conditions and noise.

  • Mental: Maintain emotional control under stress; willingness to work prolonged/irregular hours for athletic practices and games.
