Position Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the Head Volleyball Coach in all aspects of the high school volleyball program at Humble High School. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, game preparation, athlete development, supervision, and program administration while promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership. The Assistant Volleyball Coach will help ensure compliance with district policies and University Interscholastic League (UIL) regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Assist with planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and conditioning sessions.
  • Teach volleyball fundamentals, techniques, strategies, and game preparation.
  • Provide instruction and feedback to improve individual and team performance.
  • Support player development for freshman, junior varsity, and varsity athletes.
  • Encourage positive sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and leadership.

Competition Support

  • Assist with game management, scouting, statistics, and match preparation.
  • Help supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team travel.
  • Support implementation of game strategies and in-match adjustments.
  • Ensure athletes meet eligibility and participation requirements.

Program Administration

  • Assist with equipment inventory, uniform distribution, and facility setup.
  • Help maintain practice schedules, records, and communication with athletes and parents.
  • Support fundraising efforts, camps, clinics, and offseason activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with coaching staff and athletic department personnel.

Student Supervision & Safety

  • Maintain a safe and structured environment for student-athletes.
  • Enforce team rules, district policies, and safety procedures.
  • Work with athletic trainers regarding injuries and student-athlete wellness.
  • Ensure proper supervision before, during, and after practices and contests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas Education Agency teaching certification preferred or required by district assignment.
  • Previous volleyball coaching or playing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, training methods, and team strategy.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate volleyball skills and supervise athletic activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move athletic equipment.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and outdoors during athletic activities as needed.

Work Schedule

  • School-day schedule plus after-school practices, competitions, tournaments, evenings, weekends, holidays, and summer activities as required.

Compensation

Compensation based on district salary schedule and applicable coaching stipend in accordance with Humble ISD guidelines.
