Position Summary
The Head Tennis Coach at Humble High School is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the high school tennis program. This position includes coaching student-athletes, organizing practices and competitions, supporting academic achievement, and maintaining compliance with district policies and University Interscholastic League (UIL) regulations. The Head Tennis Coach will foster a culture of discipline, integrity, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Develop and oversee a competitive and student-focused tennis program for grades 9–12.
- Plan and conduct effective daily practices and conditioning sessions.
- Promote sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and academic success.
- Build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, faculty, and community members.
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Teach tennis fundamentals, advanced techniques, match strategy, and mental preparation.
- Evaluate player performance and provide individualized coaching instruction.
- Coordinate offseason training, summer camps, and player development opportunities.
- Encourage multi-level program development including varsity and junior varsity athletes.
Competition Management
- Organize team schedules, tournament participation, and match preparation.
- Manage travel, supervision, and conduct during competitions.
- Ensure all athletes meet eligibility and participation requirements under district and UIL guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of player eligibility, physicals, and program documentation.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage inventory, equipment, uniforms, and tennis facilities.
- Assist with budget preparation and purchasing requests.
- Communicate schedules, expectations, and program updates effectively.
- Collaborate with campus administration and athletic department staff.
Facility & Safety Oversight
- Monitor tennis courts and athletic areas to ensure safety and proper maintenance.
- Implement safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Work cooperatively with athletic trainers regarding student-athlete health and wellness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid Texas Education Agency teaching certification preferred or required by district assignment.
- Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tennis instruction, conditioning, and team management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Work Schedule
- School-day schedule plus after-school practices, tournaments, evenings, weekends, holidays, and summer athletic activities as required.
Compensation
Compensation based on district salary schedule and applicable coaching stipend in accordance with Humble ISD guidelines.
