Hammond, Indiana, Duties and Responsibilities of an Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field Budgeted Salary: $35,568 Assist head coach in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the track and field/cross country programs Provide technical instruction in one or more areas (sprints, jumps throws, pole vault or distance) Assist the head coach with the recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, social media and coordinating of camps and coaching clinics Maintain knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties Assist with game management Assist with Fitness Center coverage Serve as Van driver transporting teams to and from away games Perform other duties as assigned This position does have the opportunity for a flexible work schedule but does require a strong on-campus presence. Experience of an Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field Two years of track and field coaching experience required at the professional or college level.  Experience coaching specific event groups: sprints, hurdles, pole vault, jumping, throwing or distance. Experience coaching sprints/hurdles is preferred. Core Competencies of an Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field Must have strong team building/management skills Ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership Ability to interact with members of the public and media Ability to supervise temporary staff Understanding of the student-athletes' commitment to academics Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties Must have a valid driver's license Must be able to use personal vehicle to drive on behalf of the University Must meet the Minimum Driver Qualifications as defined by the Use of Vehicles for University Business Policy Additional Information This position is dependent upon continued grant funding.
