Job Description

Lead the Chico ISD girls basketball program (grades 7–12) and serve as a classroom teacher. The ideal candidate will build on a returning playoff roster and foster a culture of competitiveness, accountability, and academic success.

Coaching Responsibilities – Head Girls Basketball

  • Oversee all aspects of the girls basketball program, 7th grade through Varsity
  • Develop and implement a clear basketball philosophy, system, and standards of play
  • Plan and run effective in‑season and off‑season practices with strong fundamentals and game IQ
  • Scout opponents, prepare game plans, and make in‑game adjustments
  • Coordinate with JH staff to vertically align skills, terminology, and culture
  • Monitor academic performance, eligibility, and behavior of student‑athletes
  • Communicate consistently with parents, administration, and community stakeholders
  • Model and promote character, discipline, and sportsmanship on and off the court

Additional Coaching Duties

  • Coach 2nd and/or 3rd sport(s) – negotiable based on campus and district needs
  • Collaborate with other head coaches to share multi‑sport athletes and coordinate off‑season
  • Assist with strength & conditioning and summer development as assigned

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Full‑time classroom teaching assignment in one of the following potential areas:
    • JH Social Studies / JH P.E.
    • JH Math
    • JH English
  • Implement district curriculum and maintain high academic expectations
  • Create a structured, positive learning environment that supports all learners
  • Maintain strong communication with students, parents, and colleagues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (or ability to obtain) in one of the listed fields
  • Successful basketball coaching experience preferred (head or varsity assistant)
  • CDL or willingness to obtain CDL (stipend available)
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship‑building skills
  • Commitment to multi‑sport athletes and collaboration with entire athletic staff

  • Teacher salary based on Chico ISD salary schedule
