Girls Softball - 2nd Sport  -Teacher Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director - Campus Principal

 Position Overview

Greenville ISD is seeking a motivated and student-centered Girls Softball - 2nd Sport - Teacher Coach to support and develop the girls softball program while contributing to an additional athletic program as assigned. This position promotes athletic excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and academic success while supporting the overall athletic department and instructional program.

 Primary Purpose

Assist in the coordination and development of the girls softball program and assigned second sport in accordance with University Interscholastic League (UIL)Texas Education Agency (TEA), and district policies while providing effective classroom instruction aligned with district curriculum and TEKS.

 Qualifications

Education / Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate required
  • Valid coaching certification in accordance with UIL requirements
  • CDL or ability to obtain preferred

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Knowledge of UIL rules, regulations, and athletic policies
  • Strong understanding of softball fundamentals, conditioning, and player development
  • Knowledge of assigned second sport fundamentals and coaching strategies
  • Ability to organize practices, drills, and skill development activities
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills

Experience:

  • Previous successful coaching experience in softball and/or secondary athletics preferred
  • Experience working with secondary student-athletes preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred

 Major Responsibilities and Duties

Athletic Program Support

  • Assist with all aspects of the girls softball program
  • Support implementation of practice plans, game preparation, and player development
  • Coach and support assigned second sport as directed by the Athletic Director
  • Promote discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development among student-athletes

Student-Athlete Support

  • Monitor academic progress, eligibility, and conduct of student-athletes
  • Promote leadership, accountability, and positive decision-making
  • Ensure supervision and safety of athletes during practices, games, travel, and events
  • Communicate program expectations and team guidelines to students and parents

Operations & Compliance

  • Assist with scheduling, transportation, tournaments, and athletic events
  • Maintain inventory and proper care of uniforms, equipment, and facilities
  • Ensure compliance with UIL, TEA, district, and athletic department policies
  • Assist with supervision of locker rooms, practice areas, and athletic facilities

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned with TEKS and district curriculum
  • Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
  • Monitor student academic progress and provide support as needed
  • Participate in PLCs, professional development, and campus meetings

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with coaching staff, teachers, administrators, and athletic personnel
  • Participate in professional development and coaching clinics
  • Support campus and district initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or campus administration

 Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervision of student managers and student-athletes as assigned

 Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, running, and demonstration of athletic skills

Environmental Factors:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain emotional control
  • Ability to perform effectively in competitive and high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work extended and irregular hours during athletic seasons
