POSITION OVERVIEW
The High Performance Tennis Coach & Senior Professional (HPC&SP) at MAC by the Sea (Manchester Athletic Club) is responsible for developing and supporting junior tennis players who aspire to, or are already competing at, a highly competitive level. This role requires a leadership mindset for the overall success of the club, in addition to the Junior High-Performance Program. Specific responsibilities include working alongside the Director to train and evaluate professionals, assess and integrate new students, promote and administer lessons, build and nurture relationships with players and parents, and deliver events and programming. The (HPC&SP) is expected to consistently embody the MAC Core Values while maintaining a results-driven mindset and a strong sense of ownership, paired with a proactive, can-do attitude. MAC by the Sea is known for its elite tennis junior development program, demanding that the new (HPC&SP) have a strong junior development background that will help attract the most highly skilled junior players in the area. 

Success in this role requires clear, timely communication and a commitment to delivering a memorable player experience through genuine and personal connection, empathy, and professionalism. The (HPC&SP) maintains an enthusiastic, positive, and humble demeanor while fostering a respectful, team-oriented environment with both staff and members. A key responsibility of the role is to encourage member engagement and retention through personal promotion of all club programming, while also ensuring that tennis courts and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.

The (HPC&SP) takes full responsibility for resolving tennis-related member service matters and delivers high-level instruction across all formats, including private, semi-private, and group lessons for both juniors and adults, from beginner to advanced levels. This includes evaluating player development and applying best practices in teaching technique and strategy. The role also involves active participation in club events such as Coach-Ams, Club Championships, USTA tournaments, and regular socials, drills, and round robins.

Above all, the (HPC&SP) demonstrates a genuine passion for helping others improve within a family-oriented club environment. Candidates should bring at least 3-5 years of experience in a high-revenue, large-scale facility, along with an NTRP rating of 5.0 or higher and a background in collegiate or professional play.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend/support tournament staffing for at least 1 tournament per quarter
  • Responsible for seeing that daily assignments are completed in their respective areas, to meet Club standards (i.e., orderly/organized work areas, straightening/arranging furniture/equipment, picking up trash/debris, etc.)
  • Adhere to all club standards of operations and policies
  • Track Court bookings for lessons, hits, and individual use
  • Provide world-class tennis lessons for adults and juniors, private, semi-private, and group beginner through advanced levels
  • Evaluating student progress and teaching tennis best practices and techniques
  • Record and submit daily all tennis fees, lessons and retail charges
  • Promote tennis memberships to all potential prospects
  • Serve as an Ambassador of the club
  • Assist the members with all tennis needs and ensure tennis policies are being followed
  • Increase member participation and retention by actively promoting all club programming
  • Schedule, administer, and promote leagues, round robins, drop-in, ladders, tournaments, and all other events as applicable
  • Develop and promote tennis clinics, private lessons, adult, junior, and senior programs
  • Call new members to conduct a tennis orientation in the facility and programs available
  • Professionally maintain courts and ensure that the environment is safe
  • Maximize the Club’s tennis facilities to reduce attrition and attract new members
  • Be a team member who assists fellow employee partners, members, and guests as needed
  • Notify the Executive Director of complaints at the time they occur
  • Offer input and suggestions as required in the development and implementation of new ideas for the betterment of the Tennis Department
  • Promote Coach Shop sales and programs offered throughout the club
  • Participate in the annual bubble change-of-season take-down.
  • Attend bi-weekly tennis staff meetings
  • Assist as needed in the overall Club’s facilities and operations, conducting the necessary maintenance and upkeep as requested by Tennis leadership


Additional Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Be an on-court lead professional for the Full-Time Program by preparing lesson plans in advance
  • Develop, support, and manage partnerships that support and/or enhance the program
  • Assist the other lead coaches of the program with implementing high-performance practices into their classes as needed
  • Recruit, train, develop, evaluate, and mentor a staff of coaches when necessary
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records
  • Coach private and group self-generated lessons
  • Define/plan player areas of focus and travel schedules for the players he/she is coaching as a primary coach
  • Tournament travel as needed to coach players at regional and national tennis tournaments
  • Assist in the preparation, organization, and delivery of various programs
  • Act as one of two key contact point persons for the Full-Time Program for players and parents


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, Punctual, Friendly, Humble, Positive demeanor
  • Minimum tennis playing experience at either the college or professional level
  • 3-5 years of coaching/teaching experience in a high-revenue-generating, large tennis or multi-racquet sport facility
  • Dynamic and engaging coach with the ability to connect effectively with players and parents
  • Personable, organized, and approachable professional who will create an energetic atmosphere both on and off the courtsPersonable, organized, and approachable, who creates an energetic atmosphere both on and off the courts
  • Capable of running specific drills/groups independently, and of guiding others to do so
  • RSPA (formerly USPTA), PTR, or other international tennis coaching certification
  • Self-reliant/ can-do attitude
  • Strong verbal communication skills, and fluent in English
  • An NTRP rating of 5.0 or higher (UTR 7-9+ Male/4.5-6.5+ Female) with college playing background or professional playing experience preferred
  • Must possess, or obtain, and maintain CPR/AED certification

Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000, plus an hourly rate for private lessons and other instructional programs. Additional benefits include 50% of health and dental insurance paid, a club-sponsored 401K program (eligible after 6 months of employment), 2 weeks of vacation time, and 1 week of sick/personal time. Total compensation for this position is projected at $110,000 - $120,000 plus benefits.
