Position Overview
The Defensive Coordinator is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing all aspects of the defensive football program. This includes game planning, player development, staff coordination, and fostering a disciplined, high-energy culture aligned with the overall vision of the athletic program.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, install, and execute a comprehensive defensive system (scheme, terminology, adjustments).
• Develop weekly game plans, film breakdown, and opponent scouting reports.
• Lead and mentor defensive position coaches; ensure alignment in techniques and expectations.
• Coach and develop student-athletes in fundamentals, discipline, accountability, and leadership.
• Oversee defensive practice planning, scripting, and organization.
• Utilize film analysis tools (e.g., Hudl) for breakdown and self-scouting.
• Collaborate with Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator on overall team strategy and situational football.
• Monitor and promote academic success, eligibility, and character development of athletes.
• Assist with offseason strength and conditioning coordination.
• Participate in program-wide responsibilities including community engagement, camps, and recruiting (if applicable).
• Maintain compliance with district, state (UIL), and school policies.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution (required).
• Valid teaching certification through SBEC (State Board for Educator Certification).
• Minimum 3–5 years of defensive coordinator experience preferred (or significant varsity defensive leadership experience).
• Demonstrated knowledge of defensive schemes, adjustments, and modern offensive trends.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience coordinating at the varsity high school level (5A–6A preferred).
• Proven track record of defensive success (statistics, playoff appearances, etc.).
• Ability to adapt scheme to personnel.
• Experience with multiple defensive fronts and coverage systems.
• Strength and conditioning certification or experience.

Compensation
• Based on district salary schedule (teaching + coaching stipend).
• Possible stipends for additional roles (2nd sport possible head powerlifting coach, possible Hudl video coordinator, etc.).
