Position Overview
The Head Boys Basketball Coach will lead and manage all aspects of the boys basketball program, grades 7–12, while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and growth. This individual will be responsible for developing student-athletes both athletically and academically, while building a competitive and respected program.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive boys basketball program aligned from junior high through high school
- Plan, organize, and lead all practices, games, and offseason programs
- Promote a culture of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches
- Coordinate scheduling, travel, equipment, and program needs
- Ensure compliance with UIL rules, district policies, and state regulations
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community
- Represent Lamesa ISD with professionalism and integrity
Qualifications
- Valid Texas teaching and coaching certification (or ability to obtain)
- Previous basketball coaching experience required; head coaching experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to student-athlete development on and off the court
- Ability to build and sustain a competitive, character-driven program
