SUMMARY

The Athletic Trainer District Coordinator position will perform responsible work involved in assisting principals and coaches in planning, designing, implementing, facilitating, supervising, and coordinating comprehensive school division-wide athletic programs at the middle and high school level. The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating and supervising medical coverage for all district athletic functions and events as well as develop, implementing and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all student athletes. Examples of such policies would be heat and ozone, lightning, AED, concussion protocol and treatment policies. The work requires an understanding of program goals along with a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation and their role in the total system mission along with following and implementing guidelines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree (required)
  2. Master's degree (preferred)
  3. Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED usage
  4. License from Texas Department of Health Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers
  5. NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification) - preferred
  6. Minimum of 5 years of experience as an athletic trainer
  7. Experience as a Head Athletic Trainer at a campus preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract:  210 days

 

SALARY:

IA-4

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year. 

KEY FUNCTIONS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

PROGRAM PLANNING

  • Direct, manage, and supervise activities, operations and administrative details of a comprehensive district athletic training program in accordance with district policy, procedures and UIL rules and regulations
  • Develop and implement district sports medicine policies
  • Perform injury diagnosis and treatment and rehabilitation procedures
  • Work with the Director of Risk Management to ensure athletic insurance procedures are followed
  • Work with the department of Behavioral Health & Wellness to help coordinate the services of athletic trainers and school nurses
  • Organize and monitor all the UIL required physical examinations for all athletics grades 7-12
  • Develop and implement health and safety education programs for all athletic trainers, district coaches, athletes and parents
  • Coordinate CPR, First Aid, and AED training for all district coaches
  • Ensure compliance with all state laws and UIL regulations and training
  • Approve district scheduling and coordinating the district athletic programs

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

  • Work with the maintenance department to ensure all athletic facilities are safe for use and are properly cleaned and sanitized
  • Direct the operations of the athletic facility complexes including event scheduling, facilities and ground maintenance
  • Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs
  • Assist with the planning, development, and implementation of various facility needs
  • Submit end of season reports, evaluations, and overall campus summary to supervisor

COMMUNICATION

  • Secure ambulance and doctor coverage as needed for district athletic events
  • Assist in the procurement and maintenance of athletic training supplies
  • Advise Director of Athletics on new and existing regulations as they pertain to athletic training
  • Act as a liaison between the Athletic Department and RankOneSport program management system
  • Establish or enforce the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verify athlete's eligibility
  • Maintain open lines of communication by conferencing with parents, students, administrators, and teachers concerning vital issues
  • Articulate the District's mission and goals in athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
  • Attend athletic events involving sport(s) assigned
  • Ensure quick response to unsafe conditions and practices which would possibly result in an occupational illness or injury to staff or students

DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate and assign athletic trainer coverage for all district events
  • Monitor and ensure all UIL forms are current and readily available for all district campuses
  • Submit required reports, lists, and records to appropriate administrator
  • Ensure Title IX compliance
  • Interview and recommend applicants for major coaching vacancies
  • Develop professional staff leadership and motivate a high level of morale and performance in the system and prepare appropriate programs for staff development and conduct in-service programs; develop clinics for coaches on updated techniques.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff
  • Work with department leaders to initiate personnel actions
  • Conduct performance appraisals of assigned staff
  • Plan, assign and direct work of assigned staff
  • Distribute UIL information to all athletic trainers
  • Provide organizational means to ensure that all athletic trainers follow UIL rules and regulations
  • Attend school specific and district meetings assigned
  • Address complaints and attend meetings to resolve conflicts or concerns involving parents of student-athletes
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities for the Athletics Department in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws
  • Reward employees and initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Comprehensive knowledge of UIL rules and procedures
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Strong interviewing, supervising, data collection and report writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, staff, faculty, parents, and the public

Personal computer and peripherials, calculator, copier, shredder and fax machine.

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing  job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

 

Work includes extended hours due to evening and night events. Work may include exposure to bodily fluids. Work will include outside and inside activities, walking, standing, bending, and lifting and carrying items up to 25 pounds. Work also includes time spent in extreme weather conditions which may include hot, cold and rainy weather.

This position is supported by grant, federal, or other designated funding sources. Employment in this role is dependent upon the ongoing availability of such funding. If funding is reduced or discontinued, the position may be subject to review, which could result in reassignment, nonrenewal, or separation from employment, as applicable.
