Job Description
Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for the district’s athletic program while also serving as a coach. The Athletic Director will ensure compliance with UIL regulations, promote student participation and character development, and maintain a competitive and well-managed athletic program suited for a small 1A district, including six-man football.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Athletic Program Leadership
- Coordinate and oversee all boys’ and girls’ athletic programs (JH and HS)
- Ensure compliance with UIL, district, and state policies
- Develop and maintain athletic schedules for all sports
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaching staff (in collaboration with administration)
- Organize and oversee athletic budgets, equipment inventory, and facilities use
- Promote sportsmanship, academic success, and character development among student-athletes
Coaching Responsibilities
- Serve as Head Coach or Assistant Coach (sport assignment based on district needs; typically football in fall)
- Plan and implement daily practices, game strategies, and offseason programs
- Supervise student-athletes at all times, including travel and competitions
- Teach fundamentals, teamwork, and discipline
- Maintain compliance with safety standards and conditioning protocols
Game & Event Management
- Coordinate all home athletic events (officials, workers, security, game setup)
- Ensure proper supervision and safety at all events
- Manage travel arrangements for athletic teams
Student & Community Relations
- Promote positive relationships with students, parents, and community members
- Communicate schedules, expectations, and program updates effectively
- Encourage community involvement and support of athletic programs
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records (eligibility, physicals, participation forms)
- Monitor academic eligibility of student-athletes
- Submit required UIL and district reports
- Assist with facility maintenance planning and improvements

- Close collaboration with limited staff and shared responsibilities
- Strong emphasis on building participation and sustaining programs with small student numbers
- Experience or understanding of six-man football strategy and structure is highly valuable
