Athletic Coordinator / Head Football Coach
The High School Physical Education Teacher / Assistant Football Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education instruction aligned with state standards while also contributing to the success, development, and culture of the school’s football program. This position plays a critical role in promoting lifelong fitness, student leadership, discipline, teamwork, and academic accountability through both classroom instruction and athletic participation.
Instruction & Curriculum
Deliver engaging, standards-based Physical Education instruction aligned with state and district curriculum frameworks.
Design and implement lesson plans that promote physical fitness, motor skills development, health awareness, and lifelong wellness.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs and 504 plans.
Incorporate fitness assessments, skill progressions, and data-driven instruction to monitor student growth.
Classroom & Program Management
Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
Teach and reinforce proper technique, safety protocols, and equipment use.
Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and documentation in accordance with district policies.
Manage equipment, facilities, and inventory related to Physical Education classes.
Professional Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Participate in professional development, department meetings, and campus initiatives.
Uphold district policies, campus expectations, and professional ethics at all times.
Program Support
Serve as an Assistant Football Coach under the direction of the Head Football Coach.
Assist with the development and implementation of the team’s philosophy, culture, and expectations.
Support offseason, preseason, in-season, and postseason football activities as assigned.
Coaching & Player Development
Coach a specific position group or unit as assigned (e.g., offense, defense, special teams).
Teach football fundamentals, techniques, schemes, and terminology appropriate to the level of play.
Assist with practice planning, drill organization, and player evaluation.
Promote discipline, accountability, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Game Day & Operations
Fulfill assigned game-day duties including sideline coaching, substitutions, scouting, film breakdown, or logistics.
Assist with equipment management, locker room organization, and travel procedures.
Support compliance with UIL/state athletic regulations and campus athletic policies.
Student-Athlete Development
Monitor and support academic progress of student-athletes.
Reinforce expectations for behavior, attendance, and citizenship.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor to student-athletes.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Texas state teaching certification in Physical Education.
Willingness and ability to coach football at the high school level.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Previous high school or collegiate football coaching experience.
Knowledge of strength & conditioning principles.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
CDL certification or willingness to obtain
Strong classroom management and instructional skills
Knowledge of adolescent development and motivation
Ability to build relationships with students and colleagues
Commitment to program culture, accountability, and continuous improvement
Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays during athletic seasons
Ability to demonstrate physical activities and football techniques.
Ability to lift and move athletic equipment.
Extended hours during football season, including after school, evenings, and weekends.
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
