Seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable Wide Receivers Coach to develop and mentor high school student-athletes at Hempstead High School. The WR Coach will design position-specific training, teach route concepts and catching techniques, contribute to game planning, and promote academic and personal growth consistent with school and district standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct position-specific practices focusing on route-running, catching technique, footwork, release techniques, blocking, and reading coverage.
- Develop individualized skill plans for each receiver and monitor progress.
- Collaborate with the offensive coordinator and head coach on game plans, play designs, and play-calling input related to the passing game.
- Scout opponent defensive tendencies and provide detailed receiver-related adjustments for practices and games.
- Coach game-day receivers, including pre-game preparation, in-game adjustments, and halftime teaching.
- Teach and enforce team rules, safety protocols, and sportsmanship standards.
- Monitor and promote academic eligibility, attendance, and positive behavior; communicate regularly with parents and school staff.
- Assist with strength & conditioning sessions and offseason development programs (weight room, speed/agility, film study).
- Ensure proper equipment use and help maintain a safe practice and game environment.
- Complete required coaching certifications, background checks, and district-mandated training.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree preferred.
- Prior playing or coaching experience at the high school level (wide receiver experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of offensive schemes, receiver techniques, and fundamentals of passing game strategy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the team for games.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or coaching permit as required by the Hempstead Independent School District (or ability to obtain).
- Pass required background checks and health/physical requirements per district policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching receivers in underclass and varsity programs.
- Experience with film review software and basic scouting report preparation.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate drills and perform athletic movements.
- Ability to stand for long periods, run, and manage outdoor practice conditions in hot Texas weather.
Compensation:
- Stipend/placement per Hempstead ISD coaching pay scale (commensurate with experience). Benefits per district policy.
