Smithfield, Rhode Island, The Athletics and Campus Recreation Department at Bryant University invites applications for the Campus Recreation Operations / Fitness Center Intern position. Bryant University is an NCAA Division I institution and offers a comprehensive campus recreation program designed to promote health, wellness, and engagement for the campus community. This position reports to the Director of Campus Recreation (or designated recreation administrator).
The Campus Recreation Operations / Fitness Center Intern will assist with the daily operations of the university fitness center and recreation facilities while gaining hands-on experience in facility management, staff supervision, fitness programming, and participant engagement within a collegiate environment.
Compensation and Term:
This is a 10-month internship position that includes university-sponsored housing, a meal plan, and a monthly stipend. Additional compensation details, work schedule, and start/end dates will be determined based on departmental needs and candidate eligibility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting with the daily operations of the fitness center and recreation facilities
Providing front-desk support, including customer service, membership check?in, and responding to patron inquiries
Supervising recreation spaces to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
Supporting equipment maintenance, organization, and cleanliness of fitness and recreation spaces
Enforcing facility policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
Assisting with opening and closing procedures for recreation facilities
Supporting staffing operations, including monitoring student staff schedules and assisting with on-shift supervision
Assisting with recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of student employees, including outreach, screenings, and training support
Recruiting participants and promoting fitness and recreation programs through campus outreach, marketing efforts, and special events
Planning, assisting with, and leading fitness classes and staff wellness programs, as appropriate based on certification and experience
Supporting fitness center programs, special events, and recreation initiatives
Assisting with inventory tracking and reporting related to fitness and recreation equipment
Supporting administrative tasks such as data entry, usage reporting, and documentation
Performing other duties as assigned
This position requires availability on nights and weekends, consistent with fitness center hours and campus recreation programming. Current undergraduate or graduate student in exercise science, sport management, recreation, health sciences, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in campus recreation, fitness center operations, or wellness programming
Experience leading or assisting with fitness classes or group exercise
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to recruit, motivate, and supervise student employees
Ability to enforce policies and address patron concerns professionally
Organizational skills and attention to detail
CPR / AED /First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Exposure to collegiate recreation or fitness environments preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
