Job Description

Ashburn, Virginia, The Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) invites applications for the role of Deputy Executive Director , a key leadership position within a national organization dedicated to advancing the quality and consistency of volleyball officiating. With nearly 90 Affiliated Boards across the country, PAVO establishes officiating standards and provides training and certification for referees, line judges, and scorers. PAVO works closely with the NCAA National Coordinator, NCAA Secretary–Rules Editor, NCAA Volleyball Championship Committee, USA Volleyball, the National Federation of High Schools, and several additional partners to support excellence in officiating at all levels of the sport. The Deputy Executive Director is a full-time, remote position designed as a four- to six- month transition pathway to the role of Executive Director. The selected candidate will work closely with the current Executive Director to gain comprehensive knowledge of PAVO’s operations, partnerships, governance, and strategic priorities. Upon successful completion of the transition period, the Deputy Executive Director will assume full responsibilities as Executive Director. The ideal Deputy Executive Director demonstrates strong leadership capacity and a clear readiness to grow into a senior executive role. Candidates should bring experience in nonprofit, association, or sport-related organizational management, along with exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Superior written and verbal communication skills are essential. The role requires working knowledge of governance, financial management, and regulatory compliance - or a demonstrated ability to develop this expertise quickly. Success in this remote position also depends on the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with volunteer leaders, professional staff, and a board of directors. This full-time remote position offers the flexibility of telecommuting while providing meaningful leadership opportunities through personnel and budget oversight.
