Job Title: Special Teams Coordinator
Position Summary
The Special Teams Coordinator leads the planning, organization, and execution of all special teams units, including kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return, and field goal/PAT. This position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to effectively utilize and delegate responsibilities across the entire coaching staff to ensure efficient preparation and high-level performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive special teams strategies and weekly game plans
- Lead and conduct special teams meetings for both players and coaching staff
- Delegate responsibilities to assistant and position coaches to maximize efficiency and accountability
- Utilize the full coaching staff to support installation, practice execution, and player development
- Coordinate and script special teams practice periods and drills
- Evaluate opponent tendencies and prepare scouting reports
- Analyze game and practice film to identify strengths and areas for improvement
- Assign and manage personnel across all special teams units
- Ensure proper execution of schemes, alignments, and techniques
- Collaborate with head coach and coordinators to align with overall team strategy
- Emphasize discipline, situational awareness, and fundamentals
Qualifications
- Previous football coaching experience; special teams experience preferred
- Proven leadership with the ability to manage staff and delegate effectively
- Strong knowledge of football rules, strategies, and special teams concepts
- Excellent communication, organization, and teaching skills
- Ability to evaluate film and translate analysis into player development
