Nationwide, The Ice Hockey Rules Committees are requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as the NCAA Ice Hockey Secretary-Rules Editor. The secretary-rules editor is the national interpreter for NCAA Ice Hockey rules issue throughout the year, working with the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Rules Subcommittee, the NCAA Division I Women’s Ice Hockey Rules Subcommittee, the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division II and Division III Rules Committee and the national coordinators of officials. The new secretary-rules editor will shadow during the current secretary-rules editor’s final year. The effective start date for this position is September 1, 2026. This position is an eight-year term. A stipend is paid during the term.
Reports to: NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Committee and NCAA playing rules staff liaison.

Duties, Requirements and Responsibilities as Secretary-Rules Editor:
a. Record rules changes adopted by the committees and update the rules manuscript accordingly;
b. Adhere to publishing deadlines in submitting updated or new material for publications;
c. Ensure the technical accuracy of the rules in submitting them for publication and in proofreading the corrected version;
d. Facilitate production of finished artwork of diagrams or equipment that the committees wish to include in the published rules;
e. Act as the official interpreter of the rules between meetings of the committees and reporting interpretations to the committees by email and on videoconferences;
f. Assist the national coordinators with annual rules clinic presentations and rules video (virtually or in-person), as directed;
g. Develop and coordinate annual rules test for officials in conjunction with the national coordinators;
h. Produce rules-related content for the NCAA Central Hub on RefQuest (RQ+) website as necessary;
i. Assist in development of the survey(s) to be sent to coaches, officials, conference commissioners, etc.;
j. Prepare agenda for annual rules meetings;
k. Participate in all videoconferences that deal with playing rules;
l. Attend the National Federation of State High School Associations' rules meeting, as requested;
m. Copy the NCAA staff liaison on rules interpretations given by email;
n. Attend and present at the Men’s and/or Women’s Frozen Fours and American Hockey Coaches Association Annual Convention, as requested;
o. Perform other duties as directed by NCAA staff and/or the committees. Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to relate effectively with officials and coaches on a national level.
Extensive knowledge of NCAA Ice Hockey rules and topics for both the Men’s and Women’s game.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to use email as a means of correspondence.
Ability to use computer technology as a means of education.
Experience in officiating or coaching at the collegiate level.
Cannot be an active NCAA coach or official.
