Football Defensive Positional Coach

Job Description

Bridgeport High School is seeking high-energy, dedicated, and knowledgeable Defensive Position Coaches (Best fit-we have three openings) to join our varsity football coaching staff.

The ideal candidates will be excellent teachers and motivators responsible for the daily development and technique of a specific defensive position group. You will work directly under the Defensive Coordinator and Head Football Coach to execute the defensive scheme, master fundamental skills, and champion the academic and personal growth of our student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Position Mastery: Teach position-specific fundamentals, advanced techniques, and football intelligence in alignment with the overall defensive system.

  • Practice Execution: Lead individual position drills, execute practice scripts, and ensure maximum effort and discipline during training sessions.

  • Game Planning Support: Assist the Defensive Coordinator in breaking down opponent game film, identifying specific position matchups, and preparing scouting reports.

  • In-Game Coaching: Monitor personnel, manage rotations, and provide immediate technical feedback and adjustments to players on the sideline.

  • Academic & Character Mentorship: Monitor the academic progress of your position group and actively promote discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership.

  • Off-Season Program: Actively assist in the operation of the off-season strength and conditioning program and summer camps.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Certification: Valid Texas Teaching Certificate (or ability to obtain one). Teaching field is open.

  • Experience: * Previous experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level is preferred.

    • Demonstrated success in teaching position-specific fundamentals and techniques.

  • Skills: Proficient in Hudl and capable of learning modern scouting/film software. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Requirements: Must pass a background check and maintain CDL certification (or be willing to obtain one) for team travel.
