Bridgeport High School is seeking a high-energy, dedicated, and knowledgeable Defensive Coordinator to join our varsity football coaching staff. The ideal candidate will be a master tactician and a transformational leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the defensive side of the ball. You will work directly under the Head Football Coach to cultivate a relentless, disciplined, and technically sound defensive unit, while championing the academic and personal growth of our student-athletes.
Scheme & Strategy: Design and implement a highly competitive defensive scheme. Create weekly game plans, design practice scripts, and make critical in-game adjustments.
Player Development: Teach fundamental football skills, position-specific techniques, and football intelligence to student-athletes.
Game Film & Scouting: Lead the breakdown of opponent game film (using Hudl), identify offensive tendencies, and present scouting reports to the staff and players.
Staff Leadership: Manage and mentor defensive position coaches to ensure a unified message and cohesive teaching progression.
Academic & Character Mentorship: Monitor the academic progress of defensive players and actively promote discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership.
Off-Season Program: Assist in the operation of the off-season strength and conditioning program and summer camps.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Certification: Valid Texas Teaching Certificate (or ability to obtain one). Teaching field is open.
Experience: * Previous experience as a Defensive Coordinator or Co-Defensive cordinator at the high school or collegiate level is preferred.
Proven track record of successful defensive coaching and player development.
Skills: Proficient in Hudl, Excel, and modern scouting software. Exceptional communication, organizational, and motivational skills.
Requirements: Must pass a background check and maintain CDL certification (or be willing to obtain one) for team travel.
