Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Assist with the overall athletic program for assigned High School and Junior High School. Work to provide each
student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state,
University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
• Current first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED), and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate
• Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or be able
to obtain in the first year.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Strong leadership, organization, planning and managerial skills
• Ability to interact effectively with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community
• Communicate and present ideas effectively, orally and in writing with all stakeholders
• Possess emotional stability, integrity, judgment, empathy, confidentiality, and initiative to effectively perform
assignment
• Exhibit a positive attitude and promote a positive culture for athletic staff and students
• Demonstrate a keen sense for developing an overall quality program with sensitivity to all program needs
• Demonstrate the ability to impact athletic staff and athletes to a higher level by fostering a culture of discipline,
integrity, and continuous improvement
• Demonstrate a commitment to student development
Experience:
• Head football coaching experience in a 4A, 5A or 6A Program
• Offensive or defensive coordinator in a 5A or 6A Program
• Able to document experience in developing and sustaining feeder programs from grade seven and above
• Able to document experience in developing and sustaining a sub varsity program at the high school level
• Able to document experience in developing and sustaining a weight training and strength development program
at the high school level and feeder programs
• Able to document experience in developing a recruiting plan for college bound athletes
• Able to document experience in developing and sustaining an academic plan that will substantially reduce the
failure rate of all athletes
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Thorough knowledge of and responsibility for implementing approved athletic policy and program
2. Able to implement district fundamental athletic philosophy on campus and feeder school campuses
3. Establish effective line of communication between MISD athletic administration and campus personnel
4. Must attend and supervise athletic events
5. Ability to constructively deal with conflict and develop consensus
6. Effectively assist MISD athletic administration in coordinating all rank one activities including scheduling,
procuring security and transportation
7. Ensure that all UIL and local policies are being followed alongside good sportsmanship of all teams
8. Coordinate facility usage and athletic maintenance needs with MISD athletic administration
9. Provide student athletes training rules/regulations, monitoring grades/conduct, and administering sound
judgment in discipline evaluation. Provide leadership so that all athletes are outstanding students and
exceptional citizens
10. Assist in preparation and administration of annual budget for campus and feeder school campuses.
11. Responsible for the care and inventory of athletic equipment, etc.
12. Communicate to campus athletic personnel pre-season parent meeting and booster club guidelines
13. Ensure a positive public relations program designed to keep patrons informed as to the accomplishment of the
athletic program
14. Assist AD, Principal, and HR in recruiting, training, and retaining campus coaching staff
15. Support, encourage, and mentor campus and feeder school campus coaching staff
16. Share MISD philosophy of promoting multi-sport athletes
17. Regular attendance
18. Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the performance of coaches and support staff.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; athletic equipment; [athletics: automated external

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 30 pounds); may lift and move athletic equipment
Environment: Work inside/outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
