Job Title: Defensive Position Coach
Department: Athletics / Football Program
Reports To: Defensive Coordinator / Head Coach
The Defensive Position Coach is responsible for developing, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes within a specific defensive unit (e.g., linebackers, defensive line, or defensive backs). This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, advanced techniques, game preparation, and fostering a culture of discipline, accountability, and competitive excellence.
Plan, organize, and lead position-specific practices and drills.
Teach and reinforce defensive techniques, schemes, and assignments.
Analyze game film to evaluate player performance and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with the Defensive Coordinator to implement game plans and adjustments.
Monitor athlete development, including strength, conditioning, and football IQ.
Provide mentorship and support for student-athletes both on and off the field.
Assist with recruiting efforts, including evaluating talent and communicating with prospective athletes.
Ensure compliance with all organizational, conference, and governing body rules.
Promote a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, accountability, and teamwork.
Participate in staff meetings, game planning sessions, and program development initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Strong knowledge of defensive football strategies and position-specific techniques.
Ability to teach, motivate, and develop student-athletes.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Experience with video analysis tools and performance tracking systems is a plus.
Strong recruiting network and evaluation experience.
Familiarity with strength and conditioning principles.
Ability to adapt coaching style to different learning needs.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Requires flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions during practices and games.
Fast-paced, team-oriented athletic environment.
