Job Description

Brooklyn , New York, The Strength and Condition Coach is responsible for the development and management of individual and group strength training programs for student-athletes. 1. Enables student-athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength and fitness training programs; develops programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, demonstrating proper performance of exercises, correcting mistakes; manages programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development. 2. Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warm ups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests. 3. Coordinates session schedules with athletes in their off season and with coaches during season. 4. Maintains records and documentation of individual and group workouts 5. Manages strength and conditioning facilities by maintaining equipment and ensuring that the facility and equipment are in good working order and safe to use. Maintains a safe and healthy environment by sanitizing equipment and promoting good hygiene practices. General 1. Communicate health information (including participation status) with: players, coaches, physicians, etc. 2. Maintain inventory records, assist in researching and make suggestions or recommendations and/or assist in the purchase of new or additional supplies/equipment. 3. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. 4. Contributes to the overall success of the University's intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 5. Abides by and complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics Department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics. Experience: At least two years of experience is required in the development and management of sport-specific individual and group strength training programs for men and women. Experience in development and management of strength training programs at the college/university level is preferred. Any experience in management of a health/fitness or weight training facility is preferred. Skills: Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of a diverse background is required. License and certifications: Requires certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent, must maintain current certification in emergency cardiac care (ECC). Effort: Scope of the positions requires the ability to perform and/or demonstrate various physical strength exercises, and to assist others performing those exercises. Other: Scope of the position requires afternoon and evening work.
