Assist the Athletic Department in directing and managing the overall basketball programs for Blocker and Texas City High Schools. Work to provide each student with the opportunity to participate in basketball and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements. Provide leadership in the areas of instruction designed to develop appropriate skills, coaching techniques, and other related activities to the basketball coaching staff.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s DEGREE
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate district function
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience:
5 years teaching and coaching experience.
1. Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
2. Organize, and supervise all basketball school athletic programs.
3. Must attend DEC meetings to represent your sport and assist in planning events and creating schedules for our district. Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
4. Manage high school athletic game operations by confirming officials, administrators, security and ensuring preparation of facilities. Also responsible for communicating any changes or cancellations to the same individuals listed above and including the Athletic office.
5. Manage and supervise athletic activities and use a variety of instructional techniques and media to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship to improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport(s) assigned.
6. Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies. Coordinate and supervise curriculum within the department.
7. Coordinate and help arrange transportation and meals as needed for all athletic events.
8. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular activity participation.
9. Oversee the basketball budget and order instructional supplies and equipment. Complete work orders in a timely manner.
10. Develop curricular or behavioral support materials as needed.
11. Monitor and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
12. Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and student learning.
13. Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Communication
14. Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
15. Serve as spokesperson for the department in the process of developing district policies and procedures.
16. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
17. Keep guidance and administrative personnel briefed and up to date on department organization, plans, etc.
18. Oversee the proper care and maintenance of all campus facilities, and equipment including the cleaning, sanitizing, repairing, and storing of equipment and make recommendations for repair and replacement when appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibilities
19. Directs the work of basketball coaches on assigned campus.
20. Other duties that may be assigned by TCISD administrators.
Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and
peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED).
